Kashish Mumbai Queer Film Festival 2010 opens tomorrow

The first ever Kashish Mumbai International Queer Film Festival 2010
starts tomorrow, April 22, and ends on April 25.

A total of 109 GBTQ (Gay, Bisexual, Transgendered, Queer) films from
24 countries are participating in the Kashish 2010.

Two of which are entries from the Philippines. One is a documentary
entitled 'The Amazing Truth About Queen Raquela' directed by Olaf de
Fleur Johhannesson. It's actually an entry from Iceland and

The docu tells about Raquela, a transsexual prostitute from the
Philippines who dreams of escaping the streets of Cebu City for a
fairy tale life in Paris. It has already been screened and won awards
in Berlin, New York and Manila (2008 Cinemanila Film Festival).

The other Philippine entry is a short film by Mark V. Reyes. It's
entitled 'The Last Full Show' which is a story of two men of diverse
age who learm the meaning of love upon meeting at an underground
Manila movie theatre. It already won awards in film fest in Spain and

13 of the 109 films are full-length features while the rest are all
short, documentary and experimental films from USA, India, UK,
Australia, Switzerland, Spain, Canada, Korea, Italy, Israel,
Indonesia, Turkey, Sweden, Portugal, Norway, Singapore, Malaysia,
Poland, New Zealand, Germany and France (Visit mumbaiqueerfest.com for
full list of films). The feature films are:

Amnesia: The James Brighton Enigma (Canada)
The Baby Formula (Canada)
Fruit Fly (USA)
Ghosted (Germany / Taiwan)
I Can't Think Straight (UK)
Nina's Heavenly Delights (UK)
No End (Senza Fine) (Italy)
On Happy Day (UK)
The Other Side (India)
Patrick 1,5 (Sweden)
Were The World Mine (USA)
Westler - East of the Wall (Germany)
The World Unseen (UK / South Africa)

Some say it's actually one daring move to hold a queer film fest in
Mumbai especially that homosexuality is not so open there.
