'Maybe This Time', the movie starring Sarah Geronimo and Coco Martin, has earned P72-million in its first 5 days, and already crossed the P100-million mark after a week in theaters.

For the period May 28 to June 1, 2014, the Philippine box office scored its biggest weekend earnings to date this 2014. According to Box Office Mojo's report, grosses for that weekend totaled P320.1-million, the highest for the year, beating the weekend April 30-May 4 which had P277.5-million (P251.1M of which were earned by 'The Amazing Spider-Man 2').

Last weekend's record-breaking gross was due largely to 2 movies scoring big debuts ("Maleficent", "Maybe This Time") and 1 movie ("X Men: Days of Future Past" still earning big on its 2nd week.

The Disney film "Maleficent" starring Angelina Jolie opened in the Philippines with P179.8-million, while the Star Cinema-Viva co-production "Maybe This Time" also debuted strong with P72-million, the 3rd biggest opening weekend for a local film this year (only behind "Starting Over Again" and "Bride For Rent" both produced by Star Cinema).

The latest X-Men movie meanwhile earned P60.2-million on its 2nd weekend, now with a 12-day total of P273.5-million.

It's worth noting that "Maybe This Time" played in 125 theaters only, as against the 229 cinemas for "Maleficent" and 145 for "X-Men: Days of Future Past". The Coco-Sarah movie could have earned more than that if only had no major competitions from Hollywood and if it was given more than the allotted 125 screens. (In comparison, local movies shown earlier this year had no tough competitions during their opening weekend.)

"Maybe This Time" is a major box office success for both Star Cinema and Viva. Star Cinema has just announced today that the movie has already passed the P100-million mark after a week of showing, becoming the 4th consecutive film under Star Cinema and the 2nd consecutive film under Viva to reach that milestone this 2014. (So far, all Star Cinema films this year have grossed above P100-million.)

The Jerry Lopez Sineneng-directed movie is not only turning to be Sarah Geronimo's highest-grossing film (without John Lloyd Cruz), but it's also now Coco Martin's highest-grossing film ever.

1. "Starting Over Again" - P410.2M
2. "Bride For Rent" - P327.0M
3. "Da Possessed" - P122.7M
4. "Diary Ng Panget The Movie" - P119.5M
5. "Maybe This Time" - P72.0M as of June 1 (P100M+ as of June 4)
6. "So It's You" - P25.5M
7. "ABNKKBSNPLAko?! The Movie" - P17.0M
8. "Third Eye" - P10.2M
9. "Mumbai Love: The Movie" - P0.5M

TOTAL GROSS TO DATE: P1.1-BILLION
