Philippines ' Top-Grossing Films for 2012, as of Nov. 11

The top-grossing local film in the Philippines for 2012 is still the John Lloyd Cruz - Bea Alonzo movie 'The Mistress' as of November 11 update, after 'This Guy's In Love With U Mare!' wrapped up with P249.11-million gross earnings in 5 weeks of showing, only P13-million short of The Mistress' P262.79M total gross.

Meanwhile, the movie 'A Secret Affair', which stars Anne Curtis, Derek Ramsay and Andi Eigenmann, becomes the 6th Pinoy film to hit the P100-million mark. After 3 weeks in theaters, it now has P112.47M and will eventually become the 4th highest-grossing local film of the year. But still, compared to Anne-Derek movie last year, 'No Other Woman', it's so left behind.

I feel sad for 'Suddenly It's Magic', which stars Thai superstar Mario Maurer and Pinay sweetheart Erich Gonzales. After 2 weeks, it only earned P38.09-million and is most likely not gonna reach P50-M given strong competition this week ('The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn Part 2' gets approximately 75% of the Philippine theaters as it opens today, Nov. 15).

Though 'Suddenly It's Magic' had a 5-day opening gross better than Erich Gonzales' previous movie 'Corazon: Ang Unang Aswang' last March
(P25.87M vs P20.52M), it somehow underperformed during Week 2 with 12-day gross of 38.09M as against Corazon's P40.42-M 12-day gross. (And the former was mainstream, while the latter was a maindie.)

'Suddenly It's Magic' might end up as the lowest-grosser among Star Cinema movies this 2012 (if excluding those indie and semi-indie films released by Star Cinema).

I just hope Mario Maurer will still do a movie in the Philippines, with a great material and perhaps, with a leading lady who would have the best chemistry with the Thai actor.
