Janice De Belen, Dawn Zulueta, Helen Gamboa - top contenders for 'Best Drama Actress' in the 26th PMPC Star Awards for Television

It's a tight race for the Best Drama Actress and Best Drama Actor awards in the 26th PMPC Star Awards for Television (2012).

These two awards are actually what I'm most interested with whenever PMPC holds its annual Star Awards for Television.

Nominees for Best Drama Actress are Janice De Belen, Dawn Zulueta, Helen Gamboa, Susan Roces, Nora Aunor, Rochelle Pangilinan and Xyriel Manabat, while Gerald Anderson, Coco Martin, Jericho Rosales, Piolo Pascual, Eddie Garcia, Richard Gomez and Dingdong Dantes are the Best Drama Actress nominees.

Janice De Belen is nominated for her role of Elena, Budoy's loving adoptive mother on ABS-CBN's "Budoy", while Dawn Zulueta, Helen Gamboa and Susan Roces are nominated for their respective roles of Emily, Doña Margaret and Manang Henya in the still-airing "Walang Hanggan", also on ABS-CBN.

The Superstar Nora Aunor meanwhile is recognized for her comeback teleserye "Sa Ngalan Ng Ina" aired over TV5. Surprisingly, Rochelle Pangilinan gets a nod for GMA 7's "Amaya" and not surprisingly, Xyriel Manabat is a nominee for ABS-CBN's "100 Days To Heaven".

The winner for Best Drama Actress could either be Janice or Dawn or Ms. Helen, but I like Janice to win the award.

It was a convincing portrayal by Janice and I remember getting carried away by her scenes there with Budoy, played by Gerald Anderson.

One of the best actresses we have, Janice De Belen rarely gets recognized for her acting skills in recent years (maybe because of not so challenging roles she had while still with GMA 7) and the last time she had a really great acting performance before Budoy was in "Familia Zaragoza" on ABS-CBN during the 90's. (I'm still a kiddie then but I already got hooked to that soap. Hope it gets a remake.)

Rochelle Pangilinan has the least chance of winning here (it should have been Marian Rivera or Gina Alajar who got nominated for 'Amaya'), while Xyriel Manabat, the youngest and the only child nominee, could be a deserving winner, but I don't think they're gonna let her win. However, Xyriel is for me the top contender to win in the Best Child Performer where she's also nominated.

As for the Best Drama Actor award, the competition is not as tight as the Best Actress award and for me, it's no doubt that Gerald Anderson as Budoy will bring home the trophy,
though Coco Martin for "Walang Hanggan", Jericho Rosales and Piolo Pascual for "Nang Dahil Sa Pag-ibig", were also good in their respective roles.

Other nominees are Eddie Garcia for TV5's "Babaeng Hampaslupa", Richard Gomez for "Walang Hanggan" and Dingdong Dantes for "My Beloved".

I think they missed to include here Paulo Avelino for "Walang Hanggan" and even Christopher de Leon for "Nang Dahil Sa Pag-ibig".

The winners of the 26th PMPC Star Awards for Television will be announced during the awards night on November 18, 2012 at the Henry Lee Irwin Theatre in Ateneo.
