Toni Gonzaga and Piolo Pascual, Kim Chiu and Xian Lim are undeniably the certified box-office darlings in the Year 2014.

Not only that their movies ('Starting Over Again', 'Bride For Rent') emerged as the highest-grossing non-MMFF Pinoy movies in 2014 with P410.19M and P326.96M respectively, but also the highest-grossing Filipino films in the North American box-office last year.

According to the Hollywood entertainment website Movie City News or MCN, which keeps track of the weekend box-office for all movies shown in the US including those in limited releases, Star Cinema's 2014 Valentine offering 'Starting Over Again', which starred Toni Gonzaga and Piolo Pascual, had a total gross of $1,741,838 during its international screenings in the US. That's 78.54-million when translated into Philippine Peso.

Kim Chiu and Xian Lim's 2nd movie 'Bride For Rent' on one hand also had a huge success in its US screenings with a cume of $1,281,815 or P57.80M.

These 2 movies are the only Filipino movies released in 2014 that grossed more than $1M in the US box office, one rare feat. The rest had below $600,000, including the 3 top-grossers of the recent Metro Manila Film Festival 2014. Pokwang films ('My Illegal Wife', 'Edsa Woolworth') even earned higher than those MMFF movies.

In addition, 'Starting Over Again' also collected a total of $92,488 or P4.02M from its 7-theater screenings in Australia, according to Box Office Mojo.

2013's 'It Takes A Man and A Woman', starring John Lloyd Cruz and Sarah Geronimo, is still the all-time top-grossing Filipino film overseas with $1,800,874 gross earnings.

This 2015, we shall see which movies will match or surpass the overseas success of those Toni-Piolo and Kim-Xian movies, the true and certified blockbuster films of 2014.

* - 'Edsa Woolworth' was released only in the Philippines just last January 15, 2015, but in the US, it opened on November 14, 2014. - Mykiru.ph
