Lyca Gairanod is The Voice Kids Philippines winner! Did she win out of 'sympathy votes'?

Lyca Gairanod, 9, won earlier as The Voice Kids Philippines Grand Champion, beating Fil-Canadian Darren Espanto, the more deserving to be the winner if basing on their finale performances.

But Lyca as the grand winner didn't come as a surprise, since she already ruled the voting during the semifinals, and her inspiring story (coming from a family of scavengers and fishermen) definitely backed her up, just like other reality singing competition winners (Jovit Baldivino, Roel Manlangit etc). Sympathy votes helped her win!

Add to that is the fact that Lyca also got the votes of Coach Sarah Geronimo's strong fan club, the Popsters, who were actually divided, since Darren was also under Team Sarah.

But still, it's a huge win for Sarah G, who coached Lyca and Darren, and both emerged in the Top 2.

The final ranking showed Lyca in the #1 spot, Darren in #2, while Team Bamboo's Juan Karlos Labajo and Team Lea's Darlene Vibares took the #3 and #4 spots respectively.

It's the same ranking as in the semi-finals. But it made everyone curious why the percentage of votes for each finalist was not revealed.

As they say, Darren deserves the trophy and the title, but Lyca deserves the prize.

As the grand winner, Lyca won 1 million cash, 1 million worth of trust fund, a house and lot, a musical instrument showcase, a home appliance showcase and a recording contract from MCA Music.

No consolation prizes were announced for the runners-up. -
