Just a recap first, the Gilas Pilipinas won its opening game at the 37th William Jones Cup 2015 against the host team, Chinese Taipei A.

And today, August 31, Day 3 of the tournament, Gilas Pilipinas is playing against the South Korean team who's currently on the losing streak (lost twice already) and is yet to win a game.

But at the end of the 2nd quarter, it's now South Korea who leads, by 2 points, 36-34.

Leading scorers for Gilas Pilipinas at halftime were Gary David (8 pts), Ranidel De Ocampo (5 pts), Jason Castro William (5 pts), Azi Taulava (4 pts), Terrence Romeo (4 pts) and Mo Tautuaa (4 pts).

The excitement continued in the 3rd Quarter, where Philippines and South Korea alternately taking the lead, and it ended in a tie, 54 all.

The Koreans gained control in the first 5 minutes of the 4th Quarter, scoring 13 pts, as against just 4 pts by the Gilas, and now leading by 9 points. 67-58, 4:49 left.

And the lead even went up to 11 pts after 2 free throws for South Korea's #22 Moon. 69-58, 4:09 left.

3 out of 4 FTs for Terrence Romeo cut down the lead to 8. 69-61. 3:19 minutes remaining.

With just 1:20 left, Philippines behind by 6 points. 76-70.

A three by the Korean team at the last 1 minute plus another 3 during the last 10 seconds sealed the win for them. 82-70.

With 1 win and 1 loss, Philippines now ranks in the Bottom 4 so far at the tournament team standings, while South Korea, despite its first win, is still in the Bottom 3, at 1-2.

Tomorrow, September 1, Gilas Pilipinas will open Day 4 of the tournament as they take the court at 1 in the afternoon vs the Russian team Spartak Primorye, who's undefeated at 3-0. - Mykiru.ph
