MMFF 2013 1st Day Result is out. Which are the movies to beat?

The 39th Metro Manila Film Festival or MMFF 2013 had a very successful 1st day yesterday, December 25, 2013 (Christmas Day), reportedly with a record total grosses for an MMFF opening day.

The Metro Manila Development Authority (MMDA) reveals that this year's festival had a total collection of P134-million for its 1st day, a 12% increase from MMFF 2011's opening day gross.

There are 8 official entries for the moviegoers to choose from, and getting the biggest share on Day 1 were the OctoArts-APT-MZET production "My Little Bossings" (starring Vic Sotto, Kris Aquino, Ryzza Mae Dizon and James 'Bimby' Aquino Yap) and the two Star Cinema films "Girl Boy Bakla Tomboy" (co-produced with Viva, starring Vice Ganda, Maricel Soriano, Cristine Reyes, JC De Vera) and "Pagpag: Siyam Na Buhay" (co-produced with Regal Films, starring Kathryn Bernardo, Daniel Padilla, Paulo Avelino, Shaina Magdayao).

Kris Aquino, one of the stars and producers of "My Little Bossings", shared in her Instagram account that their movie has set the biggest opening day gross ever for a Pinoy film. "Thank you for the support & love you gave Bimby & @ryzzamaechacha...," Aquino posted, "Bimby & Ryzza now hold the box office record for highest opening day gross for a Filipino movie... Thank You for the best Christmas gift! Thank you for loving our kids! #mylittlebossings ️️️ Good Night"

That means, "My Little Bossings" has beaten the previous opening day record of P40M set by "Sisterakas" during last year's MMFF.

MMDA also revealed via Twitter late last night the MMFF 2013 Top 4 films so far after the festival's 1st day, but no figures or grosses yet.

1. "My Little Bossings"
2. "Girl, Boy, Bakla, Tomboy"
3. "Pagpag: Siyam Na Buhay"
4. "Kimmy Dora: Ang Kiyemeng Prequel"

Those in the bottom 4, not mentioned in the tweet by the MMDA, are the entries (in no particular oder) "10,000 Hours", "Boy Golden", "Pedro Calungsod: Batang Martir" and "Kaleidoscope World".

I believe these 4 films altogether possibly took 70% of the ticket sales during the opening day of MMFF 2013, and their respective grosses probably having a very wide lead over the the rest of the 8 entries. This was the case last year: the 4 top-earners were doing so strong when compared to the bottom 4 earners that MMDA didn't bother to reveal anymore the Bottom 4 grosses during the later part of the festival.

But still, a big congratulations to all producers and stars of the 8 official entries in this year's Metro Manila Film Festival.

LATEST UPDATE: Partial box office results were tweeted by the MMDA early afternoon the following day (Dec. 26). It says that 'My Little Bossings' has already earned P50.4-million, 'Girl Boy Bakla Tomboy' is close with P47.6-million and 'Pagpag' in far 3rd but still with a strong gross of P23.6-million. It's unsure whether the figures were opening day grosses, or the grosses as of its posting on Twitter, which is Dec. 26, 2PM.
