Bagyong Nina (with international name Nock-Ten) has already been upgraded from TYPHOON to SUPER TYPHOON by the US Navy Joint Typhoon Warning Center (JWTC) since its update issued on Christmas Eve.

JWTC located Super Typhoon Nina at approximately 298 NM East-Southeast of Manila, Philippines.

Meanwhile, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) hasn't upgraded Nina yet into a super typhoon. It still classifies Nina as a typhoon based on its 2PM weather update today, Christmas Day, where it says that Nina has maximum sustained winds of 185 kph near the center and gustiness of up to 255 kph. (For a tropical cyclone to be classified as super typhoon in the Philippines, it must have maximum sustained winds of more than 220 kph.)

According to PAGASA, Nina has maintained its strength and continues to pose a serious threat to the Bicol Region. It is expected to make landfall over Catanduanes tonight.

The Christmas Typhoon was located at 110 km East of Virac, Catanduanes, with coordinates 13.4 °N, 125.2 °E. It's being forecasted to move West at 15 kph.
