The UST Growling Tigers took Game 1 of the UAAP Season 76 Best of 3 Championship Finals when they defeated the De La Salle Green Archers, just by 1 point (73-72).

It was held Wednesday, October 2, 2013, at the Smart Araneta Coliseum with a crowd attendance of 20,525, aired over Studio 23, Balls HD 167 and even on radio, DZMM 630. A live streaming video was also available

The Tigers started strong in Game 1, having the lead from the first quarter, 23-13, until halftime, 38-31.

But the Green Archers picked up in the 2nd half, now the ones leading after the 3rd, 54-50, but fell short by a point in the 4th quarter, to lose Game 1 to the Tigers.

UST's Kevin Ferrer, who scored 20 points, had 6 rebounds and 1 steal, was named Best Player of the Game. Though it's also worth mentioning that Karim Abdul achieved a double-double, 19 points and 12 rebounds.

Other scorers for UST were Jeric Teng (17 pts), Jamil Shefiff (6 pts), Ed Daquioag (4 pts), Clark Bautista (3 pts), Aljon Mariano (2 pts) and Kent Lao (2 pts).

The Archers meanwhile had Almond Vosotros as the top scorer with 20 points, followed by Jeron Teng (15 points) and Arnold Van Opstal with 13 points. Jason Perkins contributed 11 pts, Torres scored 7 pts, LA Revilla - 4 points while Thomas Torres had 2 points.

The UAAP Season 76 Finals Game 2 - UST vs La Salle series - will be held this Saturday (October 5, 2013), 3PM still at the Big Dome.
