The Philippine Azkals have secured a slot in the AFC Challenge Cup
2014 finals after they defeated the host team Maldives during the knockout semi-final match, 3-2, Tuesday night (early Wednesday morning MLA Time).

Playing against the host team was a tough challenge for the Azkals. It was the most attended match so far in the 2014 AFC Challenge Cup with
predominantly Maldivian people in attendance and Team Philippines had to endure loud boos, as against loud cheers for the host team.

Within the 90-minute normal time, it was a tie with both teams having 2 goals each. Phil Younghusband and Jerry Lucena scored the goals for the Azkals during the 19th and 38th minutes.

There was an extension time of another 30 minutes to determine the winner who will compete in the finals vs Palestine. In the end, it's the Philippines who won after Chris Greatwich added another goal during the 14th minute within the extension time.

The Azkals already made history during the 2012 AFC Challenge Cup when they finished 3rd, and now, they have just made history again after making it to the finals, a first time for the Philippines.

And it's going to be extra special if they win the tournament for the first time and qualify for the 2015 AFC Asian Cup.

The AFC Challenge Cup 2014 Finals, Palestine vs Philippines, will be on Friday, May 30, 1130PM Mla time, still at the National Football Stadium in Maldives.

Congrats and good luck Azkals!
