It's Showtime's singing search Tawag ng Tanghalan has helped the noontime show won over Eat Bulaga in nationwide ratings. But before that, let's talk about Tawag ng Tanghalan first.

The contest, which is open to amateur singers 14 years old and above, finally has its first semi-finalist after Dominador Aviola Jr representing Mindanao won for 5 consecutive days already.

The 5-time defending champion now has a total winnings of P135,000 and will still return tomorrow to defend his throne. But as mentioned, he's already qualified for the semi-finalists.

The contest debuted just last January 2, had 4 different defending champions already but it's only Dominador aka Daddy D as the one who won 5 times.

He almost lost earlier to the 17-year-old contender Marielle Montellano from Cebu who was so good. I was actually rooting for her, and I thought it was a close fight based on what judge Rey Valera was saying.

But when I saw the scores, 96.6 for Daddy D and 91.2 for Marielle, it wasn't really that close.

Tawag ng Tanghalan allows eliminated contestants to join again, and Marielle may do so if she wishes.

This exciting singing competition perhaps is one main reason why It's Showtime won over Eat Bulaga in the nationwide ratings game yesterday, 15.5% vs 15.2%.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think it's the first time since the ALDUB phenomenon that Showtime has beaten Eat Bulaga.

Apart from Tawag ng Tanghalan, viewers are also loving their new segment 'TrabaHula' and of course, the regular appearance of the Kilig Ambassadors, HASHTAGS, who have successfully targeted young female and teen audience at home.
