Miss Iraq at Miss Universe 2016?

Next year's Miss Universe might be another controversial edition, after this year's announcement mishap where Miss Colombia Ariadna Gutierrez was initially announced as the winner before declaring Miss Philippines Pia Wurtzbach as the real winner.

Last Saturday, a night before the Miss Universe 2015 controversy in Las Vegas, Iraq has crowned its first Miss Iraq in over 4 decades, amid public uproar and ISIS threats.

As posted in the pageant's official Facebook Page, the Miss Iraq 2015 winner is the beautiful Shaima Qassem Abdulrahman.

Shaima won over just 10 candidates, the only remaining out of the original 200 participants. (They allegedly were threatened to withdraw from the pageant, and so they gave in to the threats).

Named Miss Almada (1st Runner Up) was candidate Rania Safi, while the Mesopotamian Princess (2nd Runner Up) title went to the candidate named Suzan Amer.

If no hindrances, we might be seeing an Iraqi candidate in the Miss Universe 2016 pageant. The last contestant from Iraq to compete at Miss Universe was Wijdan Tariq Burhan El Deen Sulyman in 1972.

In other major pageants, never heard someone in Iraq competing at Miss World, Miss International and Miss Earth, though there were plans to join, but didn't push through. - Mykiru.ph
