Mary Jean Lastimosa is now on her way to Doral, Miami for the Miss Universe 2014 pageant, where she is bound to shine and be the Philippines' 1st Miss Universe winner in over 4 decades.

She already took her flight to Miami at 9 this evening. Have a safe trip MJ and let's all wish her good luck!

Saw MJ Lastimosa's interview last night on 'Aquino and Abunda Tonight'. Loved the improvement in her since she won Miss Universe Philippines 2014 9 months ago. I think she's competition-ready, and will certainly be a standout among the 88 candidates (she's currently among the pre-arrival favorites). Can't wait to see her rock the swimsuit round with her vavavoom body and her 21-inch waistline!

The much-delayed Miss Universe 2014 pageant is happening January 25 in Doral, Miami, Florida, with the Filipino boxing champ Manny Pacquiao reportedly will be one of the judges. Since it's happening within this year, it's already considered a 2015 pageant. Will the Philippines bounce back after a so-so performance in 2014?

Last year, the Philippines failed to match its achievements in beauty pageants the previous year, which was actually hard to match.

In 2013, the country won 6 pageant titles, including Miss World, Miss International, Miss Supranational and Miss Tourism International, and placed either as runner-up or semi-finalist in all except for just 2 pageants held that year. In 2014, the Philippines only won 2 titles: Miss Earth 2014, which was won by Jamie Herrell and happened to be a Philippine-based pageant held in the country, and Miss Heritage 2014, won by Odessa Mae Tadaya.

Bianca Guidotti failed to place in Miss International 2014, while Valerie Weigmann finished only as a Top 25 quarter-finalist in Miss World and Yvethe Marie Santiago was just a Top 20 finisher in Miss Supranational.

We however placed in other minor pageants, such as Miss ASEAN (1st Runner Up, Ferina de Paz), Miss Intercontinental (2nd Runner Up, Kris Tiffany Janson), Miss Tourism International (2nd Runner Up, Glennifer Perido), Miss Global (2nd Runner Up, Catherine Marie Almirante), Mister Model International (3rd Runner Up, Adam Rhys Davies), Miss Asia Pacific World (3rd Runner Up, Hillarie Daniel Parungao) and Mister Global (4th Runner Up, Wilfred Palencia). - Mykiru.ph
