Kelly Nabong vs Marc Pingris fight during PBA game

PBA never had this really explosive fight on the court in recent years. (Renaldo Balkman choking teammate Arwind Santos last March was almost there.)

A major brawl among players of San Mig Coffee Mixers and Globalport Batang Pier erupted during their game last night at the Cuneta Astrodome, September 4, 2013, on the 3rd week of the 2013 Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) Governors' Cup.

At least 5 players were involved in the brawl which started after San Mig's Marqus Blakely and Globalport's Marvin Hayes got tangled. Joe Devance came to Blakely's defense and pushed Hayes, until it escalated to a fist fight between Marc Pingris and Kelly Nabong who both entered the picture defending their respective teammates.

Yeah, the intention was good, but what they all did were totally wrong.

It happened during the 3rd quarter of the game, with 8 minutes, 11 seconds remaining, and the scores were 39-58 for San Mig Coffee Mixers.

The Globalport vs San Mig Coffee game finished with the scores 88-102.

A video of the incident, San Mig Coffee's Marc Pingris, GlobalPort's Kelly Nabong fight, has been posted by InterAKTV on Youtube, but due to its violent nature, I can't post the video here.

It's no longer important to point out who started the altercation, 'coz they're all wrong even if let's say a player provoked another player, or this player started the fight.

Sanctions, both penalties and suspensions, are definitely awaiting the players involved after they meet with PBA commissioner Chito Salud today, September 5.

What do you think could be the appropriate punishment for them? 1 game suspension without pay? or 1 year suspension with no pay? Shall we expect PBA issuing its harshest sanction ever? Why not?! An incident like this should be prevented from happening again. (Latest Update: Pingris, Nabong have been suspended for 2 games and both are fined P60,000. De Vance is suspended for 1 game and fined P30k, while Hayes won't be suspended but will also be fined P30k.)

Marc Pingris could probably suffer more from this, since he also plays for the national team, Gilas Pilipinas. What if he also acts like this when the team competes in the 2014 FIBA World Cup?
