February 25, 2013 will be a holiday in the Philippines to celebrate the EDSA People Power 27th Anniversary.

However, this is only a good news to students and teachers 'coz it's a special holiday for schools only, as declared by President Noynoy Aquino in his Proclamation No. 459.

Since 2009, when Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo was still the President then, February 25 has always been a holiday for schools only.

In the proclamation, it says that the EDSA People Power Revolution, which restored and ushered political, social and economic reforms in the country, serves as an inspiration to Filipinos everywhere as a nation and as a people. But why can't they make it a holiday for all?

Anyways...aside from the 1986 EDSA People Power commemoration, there are other exciting things to look forward to this holiday Monday, February 25, 2013.

First, the 2013 Oscar Awards. It's actually happening on Feb. 24 in the US, but Feb. 25 Manila time, to be aired here via Velvet Channel (SkyCable Channel 53) at 9:30AM.

Then two new ABS-CBN shows will premiere on that day: the Koreanovela "Glory Jane", starring Park Min-young ("Secret Love", "City Hunter"), on Kapamilya Gold and the local gag show "Banana Nite" airing on late primetime after "Bandila".

February 25 is also the birthday of the Diamond Star Maricel Soriano. She's turning 48. Other celebrants include ABS-CBN reporter Niña Corpuz (turning 36) and former Ateneo Blue Eagles team captain (now PBA player) Jai Reyes (turning 26). - Mykiru.ph
