Earthquake in Cebu 2012: 13 dead, 40 missing

An earthquake of 6.9-magnitude has hit Negros - Cebu region today, February 6, 2012.

According to the PHIVOLCS report, the earthquake happened before noon today, at 11:49 AM, with epicenter at Tayasan, Negros Oriental.

The US Geological Services (USGS) meanwhile has measured the earthquake as 6.7 magnitude quake, with its epicenter 72km North of Dumaguete, Negros, 74km WNW of Tagbilaran, Bohol and 80km WSW of Cebu.

A tsunami warning alert was issued after the quake by PHIVOLCS and a false tsunami report circulated thru cellphones, which reportedly caused the people there to panic, as seen on this video by Youtube user p0chacco:

The tsunami warning was later lifted by PHIVOLCS at around 3pm.

Four (4) more strong after-shock earthquakes were recorded after that: 4.8 magnitude quake at 12:13PM, 5.3 magnitude at 12:20PM, 6.2 magnitude at 6:10PM and 4.8 quake at 7:33PM.

On Bandila's report last night, 13 people were reported dead and atleast 40 are still missing.
