The Philippines now enters Top 50 of FIBA Men's Ranking, updated Sunday, September 25, 2011.

That's after the Philippine basketball team, more popularly known as the Smart Gilas Pilipinas, finished 4th in the 2011 FIBA Asia Championship which earned for the team 10 points and now ranks 45th in the world.

The Philippines moved up 8 notches, from being ranked 53rd before the 2011 FIBA Asia Championship.

If only Smart Gilas won vs Korea yesterday and took the bronze medal (3rd spot), the country would have earned 30 points and possibly ranked 31st.

China as the gold winner in the 2011 FIBA Asia Championship has earned 50 big points while Jordan, who won silver, got 40 points.

Among Asian countries, the Philippines is now ranked 9th (previously at 12th).

The Philippines is also the 4th Best Mover in the over-all FIBA Men's Ranking, after Finland (+27), FYR Macedonia (+14) and Great Britain (+13).

As stated at Fiba.com website, the FIBA Men's Ranking is based on an 8-year cycle and includes 2 FIBA World Championships, 2 Olympic Games and 2 of every continental championships (Africa, Americas, Asia, Europe, Oceania).

Meaning, points earned in 2003 have been discarded already and now replaced by the points earned in 2011.
