The Miss Universe 2011 Preliminaries (Prelims) or the Presentation Show took place Thursday night, September 8, 2011 (Friday morning in Manila, Sep. 9) at the Credicard Hall in Sao Paulo, Brazil.

The 89 Miss Universe 2011 candidates competed in their swimsuits and evening gowns, all hoping to be part of the Top 16 semi-finalists which will be announced during the finals on September 12, 2011 (Sep. 13, 9:30 AM in Manila).

For Mykiru, the candidates who performed well during the evening gown competition were Misses Angola, Aruba, Australia, China, Costa Rica, France, Greece, Kosovo, Malaysia, Mauritius, Mexico, Nicaragua, Philippines, Puerto Rico, Trinidad & Tobago and USA, while the best in swimsuit presentation were Misses Angola, Australia, China, Costa Rica, France, Greece, Kosovo, Malaysia, Mauritius, Netherlands, Peru, Philippines, Puerto Rico, Ukraine, USA and Venezuela.

Special awards presented during the Miss Universe 2011 Prelims were Miss Photogenic won by Miss Sweden Ronnia Fornstedt and the Miss Congeniality award given to Miss Montenegro Nikolina Lončar.

The voting for the Best National Costume was also announced during the prelims and it's being conducted now at nbc.com/pageant-life website. Currently in Top 5 are the national costumes of Miss Philippines Shamcey Supsup, Miss Thailand Chanyasorn Sakorchan, Miss Indonesia Nadine Alexandra, Miss Trinidad & Tobago Gabrielle Walcott and Miss Israel 2011, Kim Edri.
