YOG 2010 Opening Ceremony happens August 14 | Torch Relay Route from August 7 to 13

The Youth Olympics Games or YOG 2010 in Singapore will officially start via an opening ceremony on August 14 at the famous Marina Bay
Floating Platform.

And the lighting of the Youth Olympic Flame (YOF) happened Friday night.

To serve as a countdown, the YOG's 6-day torch relay has began yesterday with the route starting in the Central districts of Singapore and will continue to the Southeastern parts, then in Northeast, Northwest and Southwest parts of the country. The YOG Torch Relay route will culminate on the 14th at the Marina Bay in time for the YOG 2010 Opening Ceremony.

There are 2,400 torchbearers participating in the torch relay and they
include students, social activists, athletes, actors, dancers, news
personalities, businessmen and other celebs.

Also among them are representatives from 39 countries including a Filipino in Singapore, Lovelino Arboleda.

The YOG 2010 will start August 14 and ends on August 26. There are about 5,000 athletes who will compete in 26 sport events.

Team Philippines has 9 delegates in 5 sport events and they are:

Bobby Ray Parks Jr, Michael Anthony Pate, Jeron Alvin Teng (picture)
and Cris Michael Tolomia for Basketball; Jasmine Alkhaldi and Jessie
King Lacuña for Swimming; Kirk Barbosa for Taekwondo; Jeson Patrombon for Tennis; and Patricia Llena for Weightlifting.
