The guy with Wendy Valdez

Posted by  Admin  on Thursday, May 7, 2009  at 12:20 AM

Hoy Wendy, alam ba 'to ni Bruce?

Hehehe... They're actually friends! In fact, the guy is also photographed below with Wendy's bf Bruce Quebral.

The guy with Wendy and Bruce is Lemuelle 'Lemuel or Lem' Pelayo, a model and one of the finalists in the 2009 Mossimo Bikini Summit competition.

Lem appeared in a number of TV ads such as DoubleMint, McDonald's, Master Eskinol, SanMig Light and the famous Voice Combo Sandwich commercial.

For McDonald's, he was in the TVC for "Pa-burger ka naman!" with Randolf Stamatelaky and one female model. (For sure, you remember those three cheeseburger commercials where his popular lines were "Wow Bangs!" and "Wow English!" as well as being the guy in tucked-in shirts, then Randolf teased him, "Wow Tucked-In! Burger! Burger! Burger!)

In the Voice Combo Sandwich TV ad, Lem has become more famous as the guy with unzipped zippers. (His lines there were "voice combo sandwich na may kakaibang sarap dahil sa pinagpatong-patong na crispy wafers ... cream fillings...eto? 'eto ba ang gusto mo? hindi kita bibigyan nito, kahit ga'no ka pa kaganda!"). I love that commercial!

In 2007, he was one of my Top 10 picks among the 69 Cosmo Bachelor Hunks.

About the 'Abby Cruz in Boracay' post

Posted by  Admin  on    at 9:36 PM

Maybe some of you are wondering what happened to my post about Abby Cruz in Boracay. The post's content and the images have been removed as requested by someone who was present during the after-party at the Century Tuna event in Borcay.

In that particular post, Abby was photographed with Ram Sagad on two photos and with Ervic Vijandre on another two photos along with some other friends.

It was entitled, Abby Cruz, drunk and flirty in Boracay?, with a question mark because it might be true or not and it's up to the readers to judge.

There was actually nothing malicious on the photos. It's just that Abby has a boyfriend in the person of Paolo Bediones, but I was quick to add in the later part of the post that Paolo is, maybe, an understanding boyfriend and he will give no malice on the photos.

On one photo, Abby was the one hugging Ervic, who was visibly had a dose of alcohol and was so red and blushing.

In defense of Abby, someone sent me an e-mail asking me to remove the post and the photos. Since Mykiru is a friendly and understanding blogger, I've granted his request.

For the purpose of transparency, here's some parts of the letter:

"...I am humbly asking for your consideration to remove the photos and blog about Abby being drunk at the said event. I find it questionable as I myself was there and I can prove the fact that she was not drunk and not flirty at all. All of the contestants treat each other as brothers and sisters that's why they were that close. I hope you understand that I do not want to put any problem which might arise from the post and photos in the blog.

This is also to respect the privacy of the people who were in the photos.

Hoping for your consideration. Thank you so much..."

Okay, so that clears things up! Issue closed and resolved!!!

Enchong Dee, never had a boyfriend and still a virgin

Posted by  Admin  on    at 6:56 PM

Enchong Dee gets the limelight once more as he leads the cast of the upcoming show Your Song Presents: Boystown, which premieres this Sunday right before The Buzz on ABS-CBN.

At the presscon for the Boystown last Tuesday, Enchong Dee was grilled by the press and asked once again about the never-ending issue that he is one of the rumored gays in Philippine showbiz.

Enchong is over two years in showbiz now and the gay issue on him is also that old. (Pinoy Urge had a post about it 2 years ago with lots of interesting comments)

Enchong gamely responded to the issue by answering, "So far, wala akong nagiging boyfriend."

Enchong's intention for his response was to disprove the gay rumors, but it won't actually end the suspicion though.

Being gay doesn't mean you should have a boyfriend. There are also gays who never had boyfriend, especially those who are afraid to come out and only have secret crushes or maybe close to having a boyfriend. They are in doubt of themselves and would never admit they belong to the pink community.

That is why, before everyone adds more suspicion to his answer, Enchong added that he already had a non-showbiz girlfriend before. In others words, he had a girlfriend and never had a boyfriend. Should we label him now as a bisexual? Because there is a possibility he could have a boyfriend anytime he wants to because as of today, he has no boyfriend.

Enchong also revealed at the presscon that at the age of 20, he is still a certified virgin. Rayver Cruz, Victor Basa, Aljur Abrenica, Christian Bautista, Robi Domingo, Fred Payawan and even Bebe Gandanghari also admitted the same thing before. Wow, we're getting more and more of them.

Whatever Enchong's sexuality is, it won't make him less sexier and less endearing. I love this fellow Bicolano and maybe, let's put the issue to rest.

What is certain is that Enchong is one of busiest young actors today. Other than Your Song Presents: Boystown, he is also cast in Komiks Presents: Mars Ravelo's Nasaan Ka Maruja and soon on another TV series Dahil May Isang Ikaw. He is also in the cast of the upcoming Star Cinema movie BFF: Best Friends Forever, starring Sharon Cuneta and Ai-Ai delas Alas. And don't forget, he also has numerous endorsements.

Palace defends Martin Nievera against critics

Posted by  Admin  on Tuesday, May 5, 2009  at 11:41 PM

The Malacañang Palace via Cabinet Secretary Silvestre Bello III has expressed its support on the 'Lupang Hinirang' version of Martin Nievera which was sang during the opening of Pacquiao-Hatton fight last Sunday in Las Vegas.

According to Bello, Martin should be allowed "freedom of expression".

"There’s a saying that if you ask 50 artists or singers to sing a song, you will see 50 different versions of the song,” he said to Philippine Daily Inquirer.

Yes, I think Bello is right. Why do they always invite a new singer to sing the Philippine National Anthem in every Pacquiao fight if only to hear the same version over and over again?

Previous artists who sang Lupang Hinirang for a Pacquiao fight were Lani Misalucha, Jennifer Bautista, Sarah Geronimo, Ciara Sotto, Kyla, Geneva Cruz, Karylle and most recently Martin Nievera (the only male).

According to some, only Lea Salonga could sing Lupang Hinirang the right way. And why not just play a Lea Salonga tape of Lupang Hinirang every time there is a boxing fight? Or simply make Lea as the official singer of Lupang Hinirang?

In connection with this issue, two lawmakers are also in defense of Martin Nievera and will make a bold move by proposing for an amendment of the Flag and Heraldic Code (Republic Act No. 8491). If ever passed, artists who will interpret the national anthem in a different way will no longer be penalized or punished.

We actually have different sides regarding this matter. Everyone is entitled to an opinion just like someone who has made a significant comment on my previous post stating his disappointment regarding Martin Nievera's own version of Lupang Hinirang:

From a Disappointed Citizen:

It is quite sad how we have very little left of our culture and heritage and yet, Filipinos still refuse to stand up for what is right and just in order to preserve our pride of citizenry.

No, it is not right that Mr. Nievera decided to take it upon himself to improve our National Anthem.

No, it is not right that just because other artists want to butcher their own national anthems, that we follow suit like ignorants with no virtue and respect.

No, it is not right that Mr. Nievera stands so arrogant, not even acknowledging the fact that his judgment was flawed in interpreting the National Anthem to suit only his singing style and not to be a symbol for pride of country.

No, it is not right that he be now put in a pedestal by equally ignorant Filipino citizen who cannot even tell what is right from wrong, regardless of their well-meaning adulation of the balladeer. There cannot be any sense in believing that your loyalty for Mr. Nievera surpasses that of your loyalty for country.

No, it is not right to once again point the finger back at detractors of self-serving artists, claiming negativity as the only reason for criticism.

When will it end. When will Filipinos finally realize that long after the Martin Nieveras of this world have passed, the only thing really important to is to keep our culture intact.

And the Filipino culture does NOT stem from Vegas balladeers.

Meg Magazine May 2009: Melissa Ricks

Posted by  Admin  on    at 10:48 PM

From afar, you would think that the May 2009 cover girl for MEG Magazine is a foreign celebrity.

She is actually half-Pinay Melissa Ricks, who stars on ABS-CBN's newest toprating series on daytime Kambal Sa Uma.

Here's a preview story of Melissa Ricks on Meg Magazine:

On the night of her prom, Melissa was dancing with her prince, her hands wrapped around his shoulders, his eyes gazing into hers while the soft music played on. But in a swish of red satin and under the dimming lights, an enraged aunt pulls her from the dance floor, tearing her away from all that was perfect. Her dress, her prince, her magical night were all gone, destroyed by the sudden perversion of reality.

Of course, this isn’t really Melissa. The prince however, played by Matt Evans, still begs the question, “What if?” and time has yet to tell whether or not the two will end up together. But no matter how fictional the setting, Melissa Ricks—if anyone would take the time to know her— is every bit as surprising and amazing as the colorful scenes that make up her showbiz life.

Often pigeonholed to play sweet and naïve personas, Melissa takes on the role of Selena, a rebellious and unruly teenager originally played by Dina Bonnevie in the1980 film, Underage. Despite the stark difference between her character and who she is in real life, Melissa is able to play the part so convincingly that it’s easy to forget she’s relatively new to the business. In her latest project, Kambal sa Uma, she plays a rat, and while most starlets would feel disappointment, even contempt for the said role, Melissa’s excitement is infectious, her passion and dedication to her work is transparent in the way she is thankful for every opportunity she’s been given.

Starting out as a young contender in Star Circle Quest, Melissa got eliminated early on the show, but that didn’t stop her from pursuing her lifelong goal to become an actress. When a project went awry, she didn’t lose hope and instead tried again. And again. And again—until a breakthrough role and a lasting love team finally gave her a shot at stardom. Far from where she first started, even with the tremendous and impossible strain brought about by the demands of her career, Melissa succeeds as an actress and as an inspiration. A young and promising artist bent on taking as many challenging roles as she can, Melissa doesn’t know the meaning of the word “can’t” and will do anything to prove it.

Growing up did you always want to be a celebrity?
Gusto ko talaga maging singer but I didn’t have the gift of voice, so I wanted to be a model. I auditioned for commercials, for print ads and hindi ako natatanggap. I didn’t know how to act so in-enroll ako ng parents ko sa ABS-CBN Public Workshop, e nagkataon sabi nila “O lahat ng nagwo-workshop pumila kayo may mga auditions.” So pila ko with my friends and then yun natanggap ako. First time ever ako natanggap sa isang audition was with Star Circle Quest.

When was the moment you realized that this is the industry you want to be in?
Right when I was accepted in the audition. Sabi ko, “Not everybody has this chance.” Kasi I saw how many people andun sa pila, may nagigitara, may kumakanta, nagme-memorize ng monologues nila, nakita ko na ang dami palang gusto maging artista. And then for me na matanggap, dapat pagbutihin ko naman, diba?

Ryan wants 13 children with wife Judy Ann

Posted by  Admin  on    at 10:20 PM

After their much talked about wedding last week, Ryan Agoncillo has revealed his plans of havings 13 children with wife Judy Ann Santos.

Shocks! Kayanin kaya ni Juday?

Seriously speaking, Ryan just wants 5 cute kids with Judy Ann.

In the May 2009 issue of S Magazine, the couple is in the cover but it was only Ryan who was interviewed for the feature.

Ryan had nothing but sweet word for Juday.

"I love her for the same reasons. Pero 'yung lalim ng relationship namin, iyon ang lumalalim pa. Mas may depth na ngayon. Four years ago, you probably heard me talk about her being maalaga. Multiply that by 365 days and then 4 years, ganoon kalalim na ‘yun. She's still the same person that I fell in love with before. So lumalim lang talaga ‘yung appreciation ko sa mga traits niya na nagustuhan ko sa kanya," he said.

Much has already been featured about the love story of Judy Ann and Ryan, but S Magazine's cover story about Judy Ann-Ryan romance is totally a different thing since it is shared by Ryan himself.

Charice compares herself to Sarah, claims she is the bigger star

Posted by  Admin  on    at 9:25 PM

Fans of Sarah Geronimo for sure will raise their eyebrows regarding this issue.

During the presscon of international teen sensation Charice Pempengco for her second album entitled My Inspiration under Star Records, Charice allegedly said that she is more popular than the Philippines' newest Box Office Queen Sarah Geronimo.

Hindi lang ako kilala dito but also in the US. Si Sarah dito lang. I [will] appear in the international movie 'Alvin and the Chipmunks' at nakagawa na ako ng international recording," Charice fearlessly said in front of the press.

Was she really serious in saying that?

I could not believe she said that. Yes, Charice was right that she is indeed more popular than Sarah, but it's only as far as the international scene is concerned.

Charice has already appeared in Oprah, on Ellen, Good Morning America, performed on different big events in front of international audience, will be part of a Hollywood movie and is about to launch her David Foster produced album. Sarah has yet to achieve those.

In the Philippines though, Sarah is the bigger star, who has more than 10 platinum albums and two monster hit movies, one of which is the Philippines' highest-grossing film of all time.

Charice, on one hand, has one platinum album in the country.

I don't think she, herself, should say those things. Charice should just wait for other people to praise her and recognize the fact that she is the more popular star.

Does this merit a good promotion for her album, which is a Mother's Day offering, obviously dedicated by Charice to her mom Raquel?

My Inspiration has 12 tracks, one of which is a duet by Charice and Mommy Raquel:

Track 1 - Always You (Single Edit)
Track 2 - Wind Beneath My Wings (Pop Mix)
Track 3 - I’ll Be There
Track 4 - You’ll Never Stand Alone
Track 5 - You Raise Me Up
Track 6 - Mama
Track 7 - In My Life
Track 8 - Through The Years
Track 9 - For Mama
Track 10 - You & Me Against The World (feat. Mommy Raquel)
Track 11 - Always You (Full Version)
Track 12 - Wind Beneath My Wings (Orchestral Mix)

On The Buzz last Sunday, Charice shared that will be appearing for the third time on Oprah this May 18 to promote her first international album.

This Saturday, May 9, Charice is also set to perform in Las Vegas for the 2009 staging of "Hit Man: David Foster And Friends". It will be held at the Mandalay Bay Resort starting at 8:00 PM. Aside from Charice, performers include Philip Bailey (from the Earth, Wind & Fire), Brian McKnight and Peter Cincotti.

62nd Cannes Film Festival Line-Up

Posted by  Admin  on    at 7:39 PM

The 62nd Annual Cannes Film Festival will officially start on May 13th in France. The opening film will be the Disney Pixar film Up, which is directed by Monsters, Inc. director Pete Docter.

It will be a first in the history of Festival de Cannes that a 3D animated film will serve as the opening film.

Up, which is a non-competition film for the top prize Palme d'Or or the Golden Palm, will be released in the US on May 29th, 2 weeks after the opening of 2009 Cannes Film Festival.

Twenty (20) films will be in competition for the Palme d'Or prize and that includes the Filipino film Kinatay (The Execution of P), which is directed by Brillante Mendoza who was also in competition for the top prize last year via the film Serbis.

Kinatay stars Coco Martin, Mercedes Cabral, Maria Isabel Lopez and John Regala. Martin and Cabral were also part of Serbis. Mercedes Cabral, amazingly, is also part of the Korean movie Thirst, one of the 20 competing films.

Director Mendoza will compete against big time and Oscar-winning directors in the world such as Spain's Pedro Almodovar for Broken Embraces (starring Penelope Cruz), Britain's Andrea Arnold for Fish Tank, New Zealand's Jane Campion for Bright Star (starring Paul Schneider), USA's Ang Lee for Taking Woodstock, USA's Quentin Tarantino for Inglorious Basterds (starring Brad Pitt) and 2006 Cannes' Golden Palm winner from the UK Ken Loach for Looking For Eric.

Three more Pinoy films will be participating in the said festival.

Raya Martin's Independencia, starring Tetchie Agbayani, Sid Lucero and Alessandra De Rossi, has been chosen for exhibition under "Un Certain Regard" section. Agbayani's role was first offered to the Star for All Seasons Vilma Santos, but the latter begged off due to conflict of schedules because she was to shoot for her next movie with Star Cinema tentatively titled A Mother's Story, with John Lloyd Cruz and Luis Manzano.

The film will compete for the Prix Un Certain Regard award.

Manila, jointly directed by Adolf Alix Jr. and Raya Martin, will also be part under "Special Screenings", but not competing for any prize. The movie's cast includes Piolo Pascual, Rosanna Roces, Jay Manalo and Alessandra De Rossi.

Under 'Short Films Corner', Sabongero (Cockfighter) by Janice Y. Perez has also been shortlisted.

Heath Ledger's last film The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus will also be screened in the festival, but it's also out of the competition. It also stars Johnny Depp, Jude Law and Colin Farell, who all replaced Ledger in the movie.

The closing film for the 62nd Cannes Film Festival will be France's Coco Chanel & Igor Stravinsky.
